View of kiting area from Casa Iguana-Nicaragua

Little Corn Island has ideal Caribbean windsurfing and kite boarding conditions, especially if your priority is adventure and no crowds. There are two spots to ride: Casa Iguana and the North Side of the island. The scene on Little Corn Island is bohemian, friendly and affordable. There are no motorized vehicles and everything on the island is either transported by panga (boat), or wheelbarrow. The island has 750 English speaking residents of traditional African roots. Spanish helps with the "non-native Nicaraguan island residents" that live and work on Little Corn.

Directions:

Most people flying from the US can get to Little Corn in one day. Fly to Managua via American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Copa, Taca, or Nature Air. You can also take a chicken bus or VIP bus from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, or Honduras.

-Take a 1 plus hour flight on La Costena from Managua (Departs at 6:30 AM and 2 PM) to Big Corn Island on the Atlantic side of Nicaragua.
-From there take a 5 min. taxi ride to the dock.
-Grab the morning or afternoon panga (water taxi) to Little Corn Island (30-45 min. ride)
-Walk the 10 minute long path toward Casa Iguana Hotel. If you are staying there, the launch is on their beach. If not, you should walk around the hotel, which leaves you just a hair down the beach from them. They have all the weather data there. If you have a lot of gear you might be able to hire a guy with a wheelbarrow to get you there. There are other beaches to explore, but I think this is the safest, with few corral heads and a good spot to hang out. Try Elsa's too, or Cool Spot. But Casa Iguana would be the safest for you personal belongings while out.

There is currently no rescue service though Casa Iguana is able to give you tips once there. It'd be best to stick to the East side of the island instead of the North side because of this. (East has side-on wind and North has side so you will get blown away forever is something goes amiss.)

Weather:

75-87 degree weather. No wetsuit. Hurricanes are rare, but would conceivably hit around Oct. or Nov.

Day activities:

Snorkeling; SCUBA at a PADI 5 star shop (Dive Little Corn); deep sea fishing or fly fishing with Little Corn Fishing Charters; drink the amazing Flor de Cana rum; read a book; play board games at Casa Iguana; hike the island; hike to the light house;

Night scene:

No clubs, some bars on front side of island. Casa Iguana has the best music, food and vibe. Good restaurants: Farm Peace and Love, El Habanero (the Cuban joint), Casa Iguana and Tranquilo's

The Iguana

Didnt kite here but spent two weeks on the island. My trip was extended by a small huricane that suprised us which caused the Nica gov to lock the island down. Great experience all told. THe crew at the iguana are truly fantastic. This is the spot for the view, and the food. Many memories
