Lake Garda Kite surf, Brenzone

Brenzone is a town on the right shore of the Lake of Garda (Garda see).

Due to it's steep cliffs and narrow pebbles beaches, kitesurfing is possible only in few spots on the lake, and Brenzone area is one of these: riding is possible thanks to a few local kite schools that offers boat lift service right to the middle of the lake, bringing kiters where the wind blows at his best that day. Once in the water, the boats assist riders for the whole wind session (usually 3-5 hours depending on the conditions). The riding area is 15 km long and 4 km large. This makes the spot a good choice for beginners and intermediates who may ride safe and assisted, without worrying about dropping the kite or risk to get hurt anyhow on the beach. Great downwinders are also possible.

Wind details:

There are two kinds of thermal wind here: Ora and Peler (or Vento). • The Ora blows from the South at around noon or in the early afternoon. It develops when the sun heats up the mountain ranges to the North (the Alps) which causes the air to rise. The Ora usually reaches around 4-5 Beaufort (16 Knots), it's a stable wind ideal for beginners. • The Peler (also called Vento) is a nothern wind which blows early in the morning and eases off around 11am. During the night the mountains cool off and the warm air retreats to the Po valley in the south. A difference in temperature between the cold mountains and the warm valley creates this wind, which flows southward through the Lake Garda valley. The Peler is gustier and can reach up to 6-7 Beauforts (30 Knots). It looses in strength as the sun heats up the mountains. So you have to get up early, if you want to catch the Vento.
