Overview: Likely the best winter sailing spot in the Victoria area. With a low to medium tide (about 2m) you can expect great waves that on outer sand bars. With a high tide (3m+) expect a dangerous shorebreak with floating logs and debris. Perhaps the worst shorebreak on the island.
Launch Area: Grassy areas & beach when tide is out.
Conditions: Variable from calm & Sunny to extreme winter storm conditions
Seasons: 4
Wind Direction: N.W. - S.S.E.
Typical Winds and # Sailing Days:N.W. winds (Cordova channel), N.E. (gusty), S.E. optimum.
General Hazards:
big beach break: With >20knots wind this beach can produce one of the gnarliest launches around. Be patient when launching and wait (sometimes minutes) for a smaller set of waves. Potential to snap masts on a big day. With big winds and tides above 3m you need to ask yourself if you should be at Willows.
Rocks, logs, boats.
Kiteboarding Hazards: Beware of power lines down wind of the field. Respect families in the picnic area. Watch out for crab pot floats on the water.
What to Wear: Staying warm in the Ocean
Skill Level: Great beginner spot in light wind to expert in winter storms.
Tide: Powerful currents possible.

Extreme board abuse by TheLaw, April 2006 dawn patrol: -- Started when his Evo 74 blew out of the back of his truck on the Malahat, followed by a grinding into the boat ramp. Any connection to the board going prematurely soft? Hmm.
Then there was Penguin getting pulled by his kite into the power lines here, blowing the transformer and affecting power supply (spike) over the whole peninsula!
Quirks: Watch out for very gusty S.E. winds just prior to West (off shore!!!) winds kicking in.
Driving Directions: From Victoria (.5 hour)
Other Notes: Changing wind direction: Be very observant / wary of 'twitchy holy' winds as it may be an indication the wind is about to turn west (offshore !!!) You DO NOT want to be sailing I.V. in offshore winds ... Watch the flags & low clouds as well as the texture of the water ...
