Naxos kiteboarding, Grece

A fun kite spot for intermediate and advanced riders in the bay of Mikri Vigla on a nice and quite large sandy beach. Mikri Vigla is 18km from Naxos town, a cycladic island in the Aegean sea in Greece.
Beautiful sand and incredibly clear water, the setting is picturesque. There are a couple of kite centres at the beach. Baywatch and safety services are guaranteed by the local kite school.
Gusts and chop do not make of Mikri Vigla the "ideal" place for beginners, who might prefer smoother conditions at first.

Wind details:

Wind Type: Thermal Winds Best Direction: N Main Direction: N The Meltemi occurs mainly during the summer season (June to September with 70%), but also in May and October one may frequently experience this dry wind. One should anticipate its maximum during July and August. Usually the wind starts in the early afternoon reaching 4-5 Bft and dies out at sun set. However, not uncommonly it reaches 6-7 Bft during the day, perseveres during the night and blows 6-7 Bft again the next day; a pattern which can easily be repeated over many days, sometimes even up to ten days. This bay has some of the strongest winds in the Cyclades, created by a venturi that is formed by the squeeze caused by Naxos and the neighboring island of Paros. Very often, it's 4/5 Beaufort in the bay and only 2 Beaufort all over the island of Naxos. Mainly sideshore to sideonshore winds. It can blow very strong with 35-40 knots and be very gusty.
