On the northern shore of Dominica, Cabarete is a world class kitesurf and windsurf mecca. Encuentro is not a spot for beginners, if you want to learn go to Kite Beach where there is a separate kitesurfing area approx 20 minutes from the main Bay, as well as other learner spots.Cabarete caters for a whole range of abilities from beginners in the morning to freeride/slalom and wave sailors in the afternoon. There are four main riding spots in and around: Bozo Beach, Kite Beach, Encuentro and La Boca, at the mouth of the river, with flat flat water. The main Kite Beach is very crowded in high season but in a short drive you can get away from the crowd.

Night scene:
Nights in Cabarete and Sousa are good fun: nightlife scene has developed around windsurfing so all the bars are laid back. Local bands play at different venues most nights and somewhere along the beach Happy Hour seems to last from 5pm to midnight. Into the early hours, Las Brisas stays open late playing Latin American music. On Saturdays there's a usual volleyball competition.
