At high tide it's a rough shingle beach which goes to soft sand 2 hours after high tide. The beach runs north/south and is 2km long (north end restricted as it's a bird sanctuary). Low tide unlimited space and no crowds, high tide good space but some spiny plants.

Head for Dover, then southeast and then pick up signs for Sandwich. The beach is approached through a private estate, cars cost £3-5 but this keeps people down. Car parks are plenty, but beware shingle may trap cars.
The North end is a bird sanctuary, do not enter. Private estate £3-5 per car.
Weather:The beach open all year, water temp drops in the winter (shallow English Channel). Shorty in summer, 5/3 wetsuit in winter.
