The 2007 Velocity Games 8th Annual Velocity Games Kiteboarding Championships
The hottest windsport to take the water in decades will be featured as more than 40 of the world's best kiteboarders compete for $15K.
It's a party on and off the water. It's also the most publicized windsports event in the nation.
The 2007 Velocity Games will feature 3 events for the kiteboarding division.
BOARDER X
The Boarder X is the latest craze in kiteboarding. This high energy, action packed event is sure to be the pinnacle of the year’s Velocity Games. Kiteboarders have flown in from around the United States for their chance to be the fastest on the water. The Boarder X consists of thirty-two riders who compete in separate heats or four. The contestants race each other while having to jump over various obstacles and around strategically placed marker buoys. If you have seen the recent Olympic Games and enjoyed the snowboarding Boarder X, then you will love this category of competition! The advantage of a Boarder X competition is there is no complicated judging. The first rider over the finish line wins!
Freestyle
The Freestyle competition is sure to be one of the most extreme events in the world. Riders are challenged to throw down there best moves and are judged on technicality, big air and over all style. If you want to see the best of the best pushing it to the limit, the Freestyle event will be a true crowd pleaser.
Course Racing
In its third season, traditional course racing for kites has made it to the Velocity Games. Watch the entire fleet of competitors start, kite upwind to a mark close to the beach and finish the race, neck on neck on a long, downwind course. All competitors get to race; no heats or elimination rounds. Course racing is similar to the exciting boarder cross; there are no judges and the fastest person to finish the course wins. This new discipline has potential to become part of the Olympics in future years

on 24 April 2007 - 4:52pm
I will be in Corpus Christi, May 9-13th for vacation. I'm orginally from Michigan. I want to know if you have to buy tickets to watch this event? If so, how do I got about getting them?
Never heard of tickets
on 24 April 2007 - 5:01pm
i've never of kiteboarding events where people had to pay to watch. Riders do pay a fee, but for visitors it's all free.. also checking on the official site there's no clue anywhere about any ticket. Jeez I whish i could come too.. enjoy ;)
Admission

I was sailing in Corpus last year when the Velocity Games was underway. They have a city block next to the beach fenced off. So you can watch the windsurfing / kiteboarding from a venue upwind / downwind of the fenced off area, but the skateboarding ramps and concessions remain inside the enclosed area. I think it only cost 5 bucks to get in, if I remember correctly.
